Professor Prasad Sethunga is a distinguished education leader and scholar with over two decades of experience in educational research, policy development, and institutional leadership in Sri Lanka. He holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and began his academic career in 1999 at the Department of Education, University of Peradeniya.

He served as Head of the Department of Education, University of Peradeniya (2005–2010), Acting Director of the Staff Development Centre (2007), and Director of the Quality Assurance Unit (2017–2019), making significant contributions to academic quality enhancement and staff development. He later served as Director General of the National Institute of Education from July 2023 to December 2024, providing national leadership in teacher education and curriculum development.

Prof. Sethunga’s research interests include teacher professional development, inclusive education, and education policy, and his work has informed key national education initiatives. He has held prestigious international fellowships and supervised numerous postgraduate researchers.

Currently, he serves as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at CINEC Campus, where he continues to promote excellence, innovation, and transformational leadership in education.
